The Beginning of my Story

Hello...This is my first time blogging...EVER...I am 27 years old living in Indiana.  I have recently been inspired and thought I would share with the world and maybe someone else may do the same.

So this all started back in September when a local radio station's (i94) morning show put in a request for all its listeners to write letters to soldiers to say thank you.  The goal was to have 1 letter for each soldier serving over seas to open on Thanksgiving.  The deadline was last Friday 10/28/11.  I wrote my letter and sent it off to the station for them to send out.

As of the Monday prior to the deadline they were only at 40,000 and then on Friday 120,000.  They counted and sorted letters all weekend long and yesterday they advised they hit the goal of 400000 letters.  As you know we Americans can be quite the procrastinators...

This got me thinking...how hard is it to write a letter to say Thank you...how hard is it to take 5 minutes out of my day to say Thank you to someone who is protecting me everyday so that I can go to work each day.  I can have a family and be free...I can go out shopping, to the zoo, to the museum and not worry that I may get hurt in the process.  These Soldiers volunteer to join the military just as I volunteered to fill out a job application and work where I work every day.  Yes they do get paid as I do but they chose that occupation as I chose mine.

Soldiers are brave, and strong, and the most thoughtful people I can think of as they risk their lives each and every day so that I can live mine.

So this my friends is my inspiration to write 1 letter everyday to a soldier just to say thank you.

Can you take 5 minutes out of your day to say thank you?

  1. I would love to write to a soldier to tell them "Thank You" for their wonderful service to our country, and that they have my total support and my prayers.
